After their nine-year-old daughter, Alice, an only child, is mauled to death by a crazed dog, Patrick, a veterinarian, and Pharmacist Louise move to the remote village of Wake Wood to help them with the grieving process.

Louise senses that there is something strange going on with the locals, who are presided over by a squire, Arthur. Arthur offers them the chance to be reunited with their daughter for three more precious days if they take part in a local pagan ritual. The ritual demands certain conditions that must be abided by. Will the couple ignore these conditions in order to see their daughter once again and risk the consequences?
